Week of March 8, 2023:
Charlie F. Leck, 78, on February 28. Born in Princeton, he taught undergraduate courses in ornithology and ecology and graduate courses in natural history and animal behavior at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, for 30 years, before retiring in 2000. At Rutgers, he served as director of the Graduate Ecology Program, for more than ten years. He authored two books, “The Birds of New Jersey: Their Habits and Habitat” and “The Status and Distribution of New Jersey’s Birds” (Rutgers University Press). A memorial celebration will be held in June.
Robert Geddes, 99, on February 13. Geddes came to Princeton University in 1965, when he was invited to formally establish a school of architecture. He served as dean of the school until 1982 and continued as a professor until he transferred to emeritus status in 1989.
He was also the co-founder of the architecture firm Geddes Brecher Qualls Cunningham: Architects with offices in Philadelphia and Princeton. Among its designs are the dining hall and social sciences building at the Institute for Advanced Studies and the Griggs Farm neighborhood in Princeton.
