Mercer Street Friends in Trenton has announced a leadership transition, with Chief Executive Officer Bernie Flynn set to retire June 30 and Chief Administrative Officer Randall West to assume the CEO role effective July 1.
Flynn, who has led the organization as it expanded food, family and education services across Mercer County, said he will remain involved by joining the nonprofit’s Board of Trustees following his retirement.
“Leading the work of Mercer Street Friends as we provide essential food, family, and education services has been a distinct privilege,” Flynn said in a statement. “Because of your dedication and compassion, Mercer Street Friends has expanded its services and is more equipped than ever to meet the needs of our neighbors.”
West, who has served as chief administrative officer, was selected to lead the organization as it continues to grow its reach throughout the region. Flynn cited West’s leadership experience and ability to build connections as key factors in the transition.
“Randall brings a deep commitment to organizational excellence,” Flynn said. “His passion for social impact and his ability to build meaningful connections will be instrumental in advancing our mission to nourish minds and bodies; empower families and communities.”
West said he is prepared to build on the organization’s work addressing community needs across Mercer County.
“I am thrilled to assume this position,” West said. “It is an honor to work with our outstanding Board of Trustees, staff, and dedicated benefactors to continue our legacy of serving the urgent needs of the community.”
West brings decades of corporate and nonprofit leadership experience, including a career with Ford Motor Co. in national management roles focused on customer experience and operational performance. He also has been active in community leadership, including service on the board of The Second Baptist Church in Moorestown.
Mercer Street Friends provides food distribution, family support and educational programs for residents throughout Mercer County, with a focus on addressing food insecurity and strengthening communities.
