Robert O. Carr is founder and former CEO of Heartland Payment Systems, a payment processing company that was bought by Global Payments for $4.3 billion in 2017. But to thousands of college students, Carr is better known as the man who paid for their education. The charity Carr founded, the Give Something Back Foundation, works with seven New Jersey colleges to pay full tuition to underprivileged students, giving preference to foster children and those with incarcerated parents. Carr says that this is all to “give something back” in gratitude for the $250 scholarship he received while growing up in rural Illinois.

In addition to running his charity and a Princeton-based startup payment company called Beyond, Carr also serves in the Trump administration as a member of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council. He is also being sued for insider trading by his former company as well as the SEC, in suits that accuse him of sharing information with his girlfriend ahead of the Global Payments merger.
