Mikros, which conducts R&D for electronic systems technology for military applications, has received a $750,000 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the Naval Sea Systems Command for development of a “Wave Energy MicroBuoy” to be used as an at-sea platform for a communications relay or network gateway.
Pennington-based Ocean Power Technologies, which develops wave energy systems, is expected to be a major subcontractor.
Mikros and OPT will collaborate in the design and development of a miniaturized, self-powered ocean buoy that can carry network communications nodes at sea for extended periods.

Laser Energetics has contracted with Israel’s Department of Corrections to sell its recently announced Dazer Laser, a non-lethal device meant to subdue an enemy without serious harm.
Israeli Corrections is conducting a pilot program with Dazer Laser in its prison system, and in conjunction with Israeli police and military units will report the results of their testing to these entities.

Pathak finds all of his candidates in the United States and serves clients throughout the country. He has an office staff of about eight, which includes his wife, Neela, who handles the company’s finances — and the family finances, too. The couple, who live in Dayton, have two daughters.

Adavaxis, which develops Listeria immunotherapy products, will sell $7.5 million in preferred stock to Los Angeles-based Optimus Life Sciences Capital Partners over a three-year period.
According to Adavaxis, the stock will accrue 10 percent dividends annually.
Adavaxis expects to use the proceeds to provide working capital and fund further clinical activity, including planned future clinical trials for its cancer vaccine drugs.
This is the second financing agreement between Adavaxis and Optimus. The first, reached in May, sold $1.39 million in stock to Optimus.

Ackmann, a Washington State native, earned his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s in finance from Oklahoma University.
He also holds bachelor’s degrees from Robert Morris College, Washington and Jefferson College, and the University of Washington. Prior to his time at Fidelity, Ackmann was senior executive vice president and COO of FNB in Pennsylvania and president and COO of Promistar Financial Corporation.

Shroot, who earned his bachelor’s in chemistry and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Glasgow University in Scotland, is also a board member of the Wound Healing Society and associate editor of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.
Shroot was chief science officer and vice president of R&D for DFB Pharmaceuticals, a developer of pharmaceuticals for the skin, wound care, and surgical markets. Prior to that he worked for L’Oreal and Galderma.
