Princeton Dance and Theater Studio’s founders, Risa Kaplowitz and Susan Jaffe have again been recognized as “experts” in dance training and the running of a dance school. This is the second year the studio has been recognized in the national publication, Dance Teacher Magazine . PDT’s reputation as one of the nation’s finest schools for dance is something of which we are very proud”, said Risa Kaplowitz, Director. The school’s affiliates also include JW Actors Studio, Hot Salsa Hot and Balletphysique.

Kaplowitz also is excited about this fall’s all-boy ballet classes for ages 8+. Ballet is known to be a great adjunct to traditional sports, as it develops balance and flexibility, and strengthens the core and major muscle groups.

“Ballet involves muscles that don’t get used in any other exercise,” Kaplowitz explained. “Many football teams require their players to take ballet.”

In addition to ballet, jazz, tap and modern, the Studio continues to offer ballroom, flamenco and hip-hop. Its respected ballet program continues to place dancers with noted professional companies. Catering to students and producing high-caliber dancers sets Princeton Dance and Theater Studio apart. In fact, word has spread around the country — and the world — resulting in a growing number of “visiting” dancers.

“Our ballet program uses the American Ballet Theater National Training Curriculum, which provides authentic, detailed ballet training in an enjoyable way”. Our classes for young dancers provide a rich and imaginative approach to basic steps and rhythms in classes determined by age and maturity beginning at age 4 1/2.” Boys may be on scholarship for ballet.

“Our hip hop, jazz, tap, modern and other classes are taught by industry professionals. For example, Matt Williams, our jazz teacher, has choreographed or assistant choreographed several shows on Broadway. Our tap instructor, Karen Williams, is a principal with NJ Tap Ensemble. Modern will be taught by Evelyn Ebo, a former principal with Philadanco Dance Company.

“Modern is a very earthy and organic style of dance,” Kaplowitz added. “It is based on breath and natural rhythms. There are several technique styles that will be covered. We’re one of the few studios offering authentic Modern Dance.”

Placement classes are scheduled by appointment, and can be made by calling 609-514-1600.” Open house is 8/26 5:00-7:00 and 8/28 9:00-12:00. A uniform leotard or shirt will be given to new families registering during the open house.
