American Repertory Ballet

“Elevate,” a program of three new ballet and contemporary works, features a work by Chicago-based choreographer and founder of PARA.MAR Dance Theater, Stephanie Martinez; a world premiere by Philadelphia choreographer Meredith Rainey; and restaging of ARB’s artistic director Ethan Stiefel’s “Wood Work,” featuring a contemporary interpretation of Nordic folks. New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, 11 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick. October 13 through 15.

“The Nutcracker,” one of the area’s longest holiday theatrical traditions, returns to McCarter in Princeton, the War Memorial in Trenton, and the State Theater in New Brunswick. November 24 through December 17.

State Theater of New Jersey

Momix, the movement and dance company, blends illusion, acrobatics, and magic in founder and director Moses Pendleton’s newest creation, “Alice in Wonderland.” $29 to $69. Thursday, November 2, 7:30 p.m.

Princeton University

Princeton Dance Festival, presented by the Lewis Center for the Arts’ Program in Dance, features new and repertory works by nationally and internationally recognized choreographers, performed by more than 50 Princeton dance students at McCarter Theater.

The program includes choreography by Brian Brooks, Amy Hall Garner, Bill T. Jones staged by Catherine Cabeen, Ishita Mili, Shamel Pitts, and Donna Uchizono. $10 to $17. Friday, December 1, 8 p.m.; Saturday, December 2, 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, December 3, 2 p.m.
