CASA for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties held what was obviously a swinging fundraising event on Saturday, March 16, to benefit abused and neglected children in the foster care system in Mercer County. The event, held at Greenacres Country Club in Lawrenceville, featured the 17-piece big band, the Midnight Sun Orchestra, along with live and silent auctions. Two instructors from Fred Astaire Dance studio of Princeton crashed the party (in an invited way) and set the tone for the guests who eventually swung out onto the dance floor.

The keynote speaker was Beverly, NJ, resident and youth foster care advocate Tony Conover, who experienced many years in the foster care system and recently graduated from Rutgers. Major sponsors of the event, which raised more than $60,000, were DiversityInc, Bracco Diagnostics, Aldo and Deborah Roldan, Capehart Scatchard, Braun Research, and the Yedlin Company.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties is an independent, non-profit organization committed to speaking up for the best interests of abused and neglected children in Mercer and Burlington Counties. CASA works through trained volunteers to insure that needed services and assistance are made available, while helping to move children towards safe, permanent homes. CASA strives to minimize children’s time in the child welfare system and maximize the probability of permanent placement.
