WWFM Gets Pair of Bequests

WWFM, the classical music radio station and network operated by Mercer Community College, recently received $360,000 from the estates of two arts patrons.

The station received $260,000 from the estate of Victoria Mastrobuono, for whom the 340-seat Victoria J. Mastrobuono Theater on the Douglass College campus of Rutgers was named in August. Her husband, Evan Spalt, who died in 2001, was an executive vice president of Ortho Pharmaceutical.

A bequest of $100,000 comes from the estate of Ruth Miles, who lived in Newtown, PA. WWFM General Manager Peter Fretwell said Miles was largely confined to her home in her last years and became an avid fan of the station.

“These bequests are representative of why the college has continued its support of WWFM for the past 28 years,” Fretwell said. “For many people, the station is a companion and represents a gift of great music and culture.”
