Donate Your Old Bikes

The Mercer County Planning Department and Mercer County Park Commission are teaming up to host a bike drive on Saturday, April 12, to benefit the Boys & Girls Club Bike Exchange.

From noon to 4 p.m. community members are encouraged to donate used bikes at one of two locations: the Ranger Headquarters at Mercer County Park in West Windsor and the Historic Hunt House on Blackwell Road in Pennington.

Since its founding in 2009, the Boys & Girls Club Bike Exchange — a nonprofit organization supporting youth in Mercer County — has collected, repaired and sold more than 27,000 bikes.

It has raised more than $1.6 million to fund after-school programs for more than 700 children daily. The program also donates approximately 300 bikes annually to youth in Trenton and urban areas across New Jersey.

The bike exchange also provides local youth with opportunities to learn bike repair its internship program.

Donations are tax-deductible, and all bikes will be used to support the club’s mission of providing safe, enriching activities to children in need. The Bike Exchange relies on the efforts of 50 volunteers to recondition donated bikes, ensuring they are ready for resale or donation to local youth.

Community members are encouraged to bring bicycles of all types to the donation sites. For more information, visit www.bgcmercer.org/bgc-bike-exchange.

Call for Performers and Hosts

The Kiwanis Club of Bordentown seeks performers and hosts to participate in the fourth annual Bordentown PorchFest, taking place throughout Bordentown City on Saturday, May 3, from noon to 5 p.m., rain or shine.

The annual event features local musicians of all genres performing mini-concerts on porches, lawns, or driveways of houses in the city. Attendees can walk from venue to venue to enjoy a full day of live music.

Bordentown Arts inaugurated Bordentown Porchfest in 2022 and handed off organization responsibilities to the Kiwanis Club last year. “The Kiwanis Club of Bordentown is a great community, charity-oriented organization that has the manpower and resources to take what we’ve started with PorchFest and make it an even greater community event,” Bordentown Arts founder Leon Stanley said at the time.

Musicians and residents can sign up to participate in the 2025 Bordentown PorchFest through Saturday, April 12. Performers are not paid but may sell their merchandise and use PorchFest as a promotional platform.

For more information about PorchFest, or to register as a musician or host house, visit porchfest.bordentownkiwanis.com/porchfest/.

Call for Music Videos

120 East State, a Trenton organization dedicated to transforming the First Presbyterian Church of Trenton into a multi-use community gathering place, is holding a Music Video Contest, designed to spotlight vibrant musical talent and spark imaginative visions of the city’s future. Submissions will be accepted through Friday, May 2.

This year’s music video contest builds upon the momentum of last year’s logo competition, in which nearly 600 community members cast votes for their favorite logo design, resulting in a dynamic new logo that continues to represent the project.

“Last year, we tapped into the incredible talent of our visual artists,” said Molly Dykstra, project leader. “This year, we’re inviting musicians, videographers, and storytellers to envision what the future of our city looks like — and share it through music and film.”

The 120 East State Music Video Contest challenges artists to create a compelling three-minute music video exploring the theme of envisioning what a vibrant, thriving future looks like for the city of Trenton. Through music and video, tell a story of hope, possibility, and transformation — highlighting the people, places, dreams, and ideas that can shape a better tomorrow for the city.

Submissions that are creative, uplifting, and visionary are encouraged. This is your opportunity to shine a light on the future you believe Trenton deserves — through your lyrics, sound, visuals, and storytelling. Whether your video is poetic, powerful, celebratory, experimental, or community-centered, it’s an opportunity share a unique perspective on where Trenton is headed with the broader community.

Submissions will be judged across three categories: the People’s Choice Award, chosen by public vote; the Artist’s Choice Award, selected by a panel of judges from Trenton’s arts community; and the Board’s Choice Award, chosen by members of the 120 East State Board.

Thanks to a community benefactor, cash prizes will be awarded to each first place winner. In addition, all winning videos will be featured on 120 East State’s website, digital channels, and YouTube platform.

The contest is part of 120 East State’s Steeple Center Project, an initiative to transform the First Presbyterian Church into a community center for arts, culture, education, and economic development. The organization’s efforts are backed by a mission to cultivate creativity, elevate local voices, and reimagine possibilities for Trenton’s future.

Full contest details, submission guidelines, and promotional materials are available at 120eaststate.org/videocontest. Interested artists are also encouraged to follow @120EastState on social media.
