For Artists

Artworks Trenton offers “Paint the Creek: Plein Air Landscape with John Gummere” on three consecutive Saturdays, May 4, 11, and 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Artworks, 19 Everett Alley, Trenton.

Assunpink Creek runs through Artworks’ “front yard,” a beautiful location in historic Mill Hill that offers a range of views for landscapes and/or cityscapes — both of which are specialties for Trenton-area artist John Gummere. Three sessions should enable participants to develop one or more images. Emphasis on composition, color, and basic rendering of space.

Beginners are welcome, and more experienced artists can work more independently with instruction as needed. John’s expertise is primarily in oil painting, but you are welcome to paint or draw with the medium of your choice.

11×14 gessoboard panels will be supplied by Artworks; you should bring other materials if you’d like. A landscape easel and camp stool are recommended. Because this class is outside, you should sign up in advance so that arrangements can be made in the event of rain. Meeting begins at Artworks.

Each session costs $35. Call 609-394-9436, email info@artworkstrenton.org, or visit www.artworkstrenton.org for more information.

For Young Musicians

The Youth Orchestra of Bucks County holds live auditions for new students on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19. Pre-recorded audition videos are also accepted as an alternative to in-person auditions. Students in grades 3 through 12 are invited to audition. The priority deadline for online video submission is June 1. There are openings for all ensembles.

YOBC creates opportunities for young musicians to achieve artistic excellence through enriching classical music experiences. Students join YOBC because they love music and want to play challenging and exciting repertoire with other young musicians.

YOBC offers an exceptional music program that includes weekly band and orchestra rehearsals throughout the academic year, opportunities to work with world-class guest artists and educators, and workshops and international concert tours.

Its core ensemble program includes two concert bands, two full orchestras, and three string orchestras. Winds, brass, and percussion students may have the opportunity to play in both concert band and full orchestra ensembles, depending on their ensemble placement.

YOBC serves students in grades 3 through 12 at all skill levels from Bucks and surrounding counties. Students from all geographic areas are welcome to audition.

Students must participate in their school music programs to be in YOBC. Except for first year elementary band students, all students are required to take private lessons upon acceptance.

Tuition assistance is available. Visit yobc.org/audition for more.
