United Way FEC Offers Free Services

The recently opened United Way Financial Empowerment Center is offering free tax preparation, credit advice, foreclosure counseling, and financial planning services.

The Financial Empowerment Center, located at 3131 Princeton Pike, was opened by the United Way of Greater Mercer County on January 31. Its services will be available on Tuesdays through April 17, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Other services offered by the center include debt management, interview clothing, career center mentoring, and assistance applying for state family care. To offer these services, United Way is collaborating with community agencies — such as Dress For Success Mercer County, also located at 3131 Princeton Pike — banks, the government, and the Mercer Alliance to End Homelessness.

“The FEC presents an opportunity to listen to the needs of the community we serve, survey individuals who are losing financial security, and assess how our community may best maximize the resources that are available to assist them to maintain economic stability,” says Ely Mateo, assistant vice president of Resource Investment at United Way of Greater Mercer County.
