There are a lot of half-baked ideas about medical marijuana out there, and David Knowlton will attempt to weed them out at an upcoming Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce meeting.
Knowlton blazed a trail as founder and head of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute, a Carnegie Center-based nonprofit group dedicated to improving healthcare quality. Now he has landed a job as chief of the Compassionate Care Foundation, one of six medical marijuana dispensaries in the state.
“As you might imagine, the challenges are significant in operating a business that provides a product that is in high demand by some because it provides a remedy to debilitating conditions and crippling pain and by others because if it fills a more recreational purpose,” Knowlton says.
Knowlton will give a high-minded presentation on the myths of medical marijuana on Wednesday, April 20, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Nassau Club of Princeton. Tickets are $25 for members, $40 nonmembers. For more information, visit www.princetonchamber.org or call 609-924-1776.
The date of the speech may be coincidental but it is also auspicious, 420 being an old stoner’s code for smoking pot. The slang is said to be derived from a group of students at San Rafael High School in California in the 1970s, who would meet after school at 4:20 to fulfill a recreational purpose of marijuana.
