The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce adds to its “NJCC Small Business Series” with “Retaining Top Talent in 2023: The Battle to Keep Employees,” a free webinar presented in partnership with NJM Insurance Group, on Thursday, August 10, from 9 to 10 a.m. Register online via the Zoom link on the NJCC website, njchamber.com.

The event description states that NJCC and NJM previously held another event earlier this year aimed at “attracting employees in a tight labor market,” while this second part “will feature employment and HR experts discussing strategies and programs New Jersey employers are implementing to retain employees.”

“There’s nothing worse than investing time, money, training, and energy on employees, only to have them leave,” the NJCC Zoom page continues. Participants will hear from experts on how to encourage employees to stay longer, as they weigh in on the “key factors” to consider in compelling personnel to remain with a company, such as “the importance of a positive workplace culture, professional development opportunities, employee recognition, and competitive compensation.”

Nick Malefyt, the president of Master Search Solutions, a West Caldwell-based recruiting firm that “connects New Jersey businesses with the right talent” in “focal areas” like accounting, administration, client services, executive search, human resources, marketing, and technology,” will moderate the day’s conversation.

Malefyt is also the former vice president of the New Jersey Staffing Alliance, or NJSA, a recruitment industry trade association and placement firm that is the New Jersey chapter of the American Staffing Association.

Pia House Walker is the SVP and chief human resources and diversity officer for St. Joseph Health in Paterson, a hospital and healthcare network sponsored by the Roman Catholic congregation known as the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. She previously served in similar roles, such as a human resources director for Atrium Health in North Carolina for over decade, then executive director of human resources and SVP of human resources and learning for JPS Health Network.

She received a bachelor’s of business administration in human resources management and services from Livingstone College before earning a master of science in organizational leadership and change from Pfeiffer University.

Chris Schubert is the manager of talent and retention for J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc., the Hackensack-based construction business described on its website as a “full-service infrastructure solutions provider” and contractor.

Schubert, a graduate of Marist College, is a human resources and recruiting professional who has worked for various entities in HR roles, including the advertising service company Thomas Direct Sales and the British consumer packaged goods manufacturer Unilever.

The last of the featured speakers is Rachel Anevski, the founder and CEO of Matters of Management, LLC, whose Wayne-based company has been providing talent solutions and human resources services for over a decade. The entrepreneur and her team of operational leaders deliver “growth strategy with a people purpose,” as well as other services like executive coaching, according to the business’ website.

Anevski has a master’s in organizational behavior from Fairleigh Dickinson University and an undergraduate degree in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She served in earlier roles as the director of human capital for Smolin Lupin & Company and the director of business relationships for Citrin Cooperman, an accounting and consulting firm.
