A little more than a year after construction began, the 134-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott at Ewing/Princeton is open for business at Princeton South Corporate Center.
High Hotels, a developer based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, bought 7.5 acres in the Ewing corporate park last January hoping to tap into the area’s growing push to affiliate itself with Princeton’s tourism and business infrastructure. It is the second hotel to open in Ewing since last year, the first being Element, an 127-room green-themed hotel hoping to appeal to the eco-conscious traveler.
Open just this month, the four-story SpringHill is targeting business travelers during weekdays and family and group travelers on weekends, says Susan Weisberger, director of sales at SpringHill. Tourism, particularly to Princeton and Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is expected to be a big draw.
Heavy on the amenities, SpringHill features what Weisberger calls “an absolutely stunning fitness center” bathed in sunlight from numerous windows overlooking the woods, an indoor pool with a waterfall on one side, and several ADA-compliant rooms, including a few with roll-in showers. Rooms generally range between $149 and $189 per night, but prices fluctuate depending on the type of room and the time of year.
The hotel already has several bookings scheduled throughout the summer and autumn, Weisberger says. Mostly travel groups so far. But SpringHill was designed to appeal to business travelers. The hotel rooms feature dedicated work areas, wired and wireless Internet access, and ergonomic work chairs.
Though SpringHill is the second hotel to open in Ewing, it is the first to do so within a corporate setting. Princeton South is a 740,000-square-foot, Class A office park that is home to such firms as Mercer Oak Realty, Berkley Life Science, and, most notably, the headquarters of chemical R&D giant FMC.
Weisberger says the hotel’s location fills a gap in the area. “This area of Ewing is under-served by hotels, particularly compared to Route 1,” she says. “There are so many things on the Princeton side that this makes sense.”
Helmed by general manager Keith Komon, who previously served as general manager of the Courtyard by Marriott Harrisburg Hershey and as assistant general manager of the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey, SpringHill will employ 30.
