Middlesex County College is kicking off a summer program aimed at putting the county’s low-income youth to work.
Through a grant from the Middlesex County Department of Workforce Development, the college will provide a month-long training program beginning on Monday, July 14. The courses run Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the college’s Edison campus. Students will learn computer skills, customer service, leadership and study skills, and work readiness, eventually leading to specialized training or internships.
In the fall, training grants are available in the allied health field. Students may also choose to train for a commercial driver’s license. For those not interested in training, internships are available.
Students also will be paid for their participation: $4.50 for each classroom hour; $7.15 for each internship hour.The program is open to county residents ages 19 to 21, meeting income requirements.
