Kaplan EduNeering, a test preparation company with offices in Carnegie Center, has acquired Eatontown-based RedHawk Communications, a corporate ethics and compliance training and communications company.

Ethics is a hot topic in the post-Enron era. Just last week the Wall Street Journal devoted an entire section to the subject. Red Hawk, a 16-year-old company, is in the business of offering corporations customized ethics learning programs that meet the requirements of the U.S. Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Sarbanes-Oxley, and the new Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).

The company has “20-plus” employees, according to Kaplan Eduneering spokesperson Mark Harrad. He said that no determination has yet been made on whether RedHawk employees will move to Carnegie Center. “It’s early,” he said, “the acquisition just happened last week.” Harrad said that he is not able to disclose the financial details of the deal.

RedHawk’s products include code of conduct assessments, writing, and design; online ethics learning modules; support for ethics communication awareness tools and programs; worldwide translation; instructor-led ethics training; and other services focused on corporate ethics, compliance, and creating ethical culture.

“Adding RedHawk to Kaplan EduNeering provides immediate benefits and synergies to clients of both organizations,” Hal Jones, CEO of Kaplan EduNeering, said in a prepared statement.

RedHawks’ intellectual property includes approximately 30 training modules covering more than 100 topics, including code of conduct, confidentiality information, insider trading, sexual harassment, the foreign corrupt practices act, and EU Privacy.

Additionally, RedHawk offers “The Ethics Communication Coach,” an online library of ethics training and awareness tools that enables clients to customize content on-demand for their own ongoing program in response to the latest federal requirements.

The acquisition strengthens Kaplan EduNeering’s offerings in the $28 billion global compliance and ethics industry.

Kaplan EduNeering is a subsidiary of Kaplan, a subsidiary of the Washington Post Company. Its businesses include postsecondary education, test preparation, professional training, and K12 services for children and schools.

In addition to its headquarters, Kaplan has offices in Houston, Texas, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and London.
