Christine O’Brien has been named president of the Insurance Council of New Jersey (ICNJ), a trade association for the state’s property-casualty insurance industry.

O’Brien has been in the public affairs field for more than 20 years. She was previously a partner with GluckShaw, the public relations firm, specializing in state government, specifically in property-casualty and health insurance, utilities and energy alternatives, healthcare, and social services. O’Brien was also the director of Trenton operations for public relations firm MWW/Strategic Communications and an associate at the Marcus Group.

As ICNJ president, she will lead the organization and be the main spokesperson for the state’s property and casualty insurance industry. “I look forward to expanding ICNJ’s role as a resource for all interested parties, including regulators, elected officials, businesses and consumers,” she said.

In addition to working in the private sector, O’Brien was a staffer on Governor Jim Florio’s re-election campaign and legislative chair for the state Million Mom March-Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

O’Brien serves as secretary-treasurer of the Mercer County Board of Social Services, co-chair of the YWCA of Trenton’s current capital campaign, trustee of the Team Tommy Fund, as well as the Tim O’Brien Scholarship Fund at Seton Hall University. O’Brien is a Leadership New Jersey fellow and has a bachelor’s of science degree in speech communication from Syracuse University. She lives in Hopewell with her husband and two daughters.
