NRG Energy, headquartered at 212 Carnegie Center, recently donated money an time to three non-profit organizations.
The company gave $150,000 to Teach For America-South Louisiana to expand educational opportunities for the students of Pointe Coupee public schools. The grant is part of a two-year partnership designed to offset the cost of recruiting, selecting, training, and supporting top recent college graduates from across the country who commit two years to teach in schools in Pointe Coupee Parish.
NRG also gave $100,000 to Special Needs Activity Center for Kids (SNACK), a New York City-based program that assists children with developmental disabilities. That money will go towards SNACK’s afterschool and weekend program, “SNACKtivities,” which is designed to address challenging behavioral issues, increase skill levels and social interactions among children with developmental disabilities.
And on August 21 and 22 several NRG employees volunteered to sort, fill, and deliver backpacks and school supplies to Better Beginnings daycare center in Hightstown, a United Way Agency. NRG held its annual backpack drive throughout the summer at its Princeton headquarters.
