Overlook Center-based high tech holding company Rockwood Holdings Inc. has sold Clay Based Additives, a business of Rockwood’s performance additives segment, to ALTANA Group, a German based global specialty chemical company, for about $635 million, netting the company $600 million, according to an announcement by the company.

Clay-Based Additives develops and manufactures a range of specialty modifiers and additives. These products are used in a wide variety of applications to modify viscosity, thickness, and flow characteristics, and keep solids in suspension. The additives are used to make industrial and architectural coatings, oil and gas drilling fluids, consumer and household care products, inks, paper, and composites.
