Agile Therapeutics, which makes transdermal drugs, including a contraceptive patch, has named Al Altomari as its new president and CEO. Altomari replaces Thomas Rossi, who will stay with the company as a scientific advisor.
According to the company, Altomari was promoted to guide Agile through the coming commercialization phase for its lead contraceptive patch product. He has been with Agile since April, 2009, serving as its executive chairman.
Altomari is a veteran pharma executive. He has been in the industry for 25 years, 18 of which have been focused on the development and marketing of specialty pharmaceutical products. Most recently, he was the CEO of Barrier Therapeutics, where he oversaw that company’s $148 million sale to GSK/Stiefel.
Prior to that he spent two decades in executive roles at Johnson & Johnson, where he was general manager of Ortho Neutrogena and head of Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical’s Women’s Health Care Franchise. At Ortho, he oversaw the marketing preparation for the Ortho Evra contraceptive patch.
