Brian Malone, the editor and publisher of the Times of Trenton since 2008, has left the paper. The 42-year veteran of newspapers has been replaced by Sheila Gallagher-Montone, the Times’ advertising director, who will serve as publisher and advertising director, and Matthew Dowling, the assistant managing editor of Times’ sister paper, the Star-Ledger. Dowling will be the Times’ new editor.
Malone had served as the Times’ editor since 1988, under publisher Richard Bilotti. He took over as publisher when Bilotti retired in 2008.

Gannett, one of the largest newspaper chains in the country, recently announced that it will lay-off nearly half of its editorial staff at three papers in New Jersey, including the East Brunswick-based Home News Tribune.
According to Gannett, the current 99 Home News editorial employees will have to apply for 53 positions at the company. The 46 who do not make the cut will be let go after February 4.

Former “Melrose Place” star and Hopewell resident Amy Locane-Bovenizer has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated manslaughter in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Hopewell in June. Locane was indicted in December.

Milton Babbitt, 94, on January 29. A composer known for his complex orchestrations and longtime Princeton University faculty member, he also is credited with developing the first electronic synthesizer in the 1950s.
Andrea Wilk, 27, on January 28. She was a medical assistant at St. Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick.
Albert Fisher, 56, on January 27. He was employed by Princeton University.
Sara Signoretta, 22, on January 27. She was a day care provider at Bright Beginnings in Mercerville.
Laurel La Placa, 87, on January 27. She, along with her husband, Leonard, owned and operated Nassau Interiors of Princeton for over 60 years.
T. Stephen Patterson, 77, on January 25. He was the state’s chief of psychology services and professional development for 37 years. He also ran a private practice in Princeton Junction.
Barbara Spott, 66, on January 20. She was a nurse at several area hospitals, including Capital Health System at Fuld and University Medical Center at Princeton. She also retired in 2008 from New Jersey Manufacturers, where she worked as a medical claims adjuster for 20 years.
