Chromocell Opens Expanded Facility

Chromocell Corporation opened its new 15,000 square-foot research and development facility at NJEDA’s Biotechnology Development Center on March 25. Founded just six years ago, Chromocell has grown from a three-person operation located in a single, 800 square-foot laboratory at the Commercialization Center for Innovative Technologies on the campus of the Technology Centre of New Jersey to a mature company with 80 researchers and support staff.

Chromocell was founded to commercialize a technology invented by Dr. Kambiz Shekdar and Nobel laureate Dr. Gunter Blobel that revolutionizes cell-based drug discovery. Privately held, Chromocell is focused on drug discovery programs in pain relief, anxiety, and respiratory disorders. Chromocell is also engaged in research and development applications in cell therapy, stem cells, and other therapeutic biologic fields.

The new facility has laboratories customized to Chromocell’s workflow and will allow the company to expand its operations further in the future.
