Church & Dwight, FMC Corp., and TATA Chemicals have formed the joint-venture company Natronx to make products that remove pollutants from coal-fired power generation. The administrative headquarters for Natronx will be housed at Church & Dwight’s 469 North Harrison Street site.
Natronx will produce and sell sodium-based chemicals useful in pollution control. It expects the market for those chemicals to be $200 million to $400 million by 2015, as coal-fired power plants come into compliance with stricter air quality regulations.
Natronx also will spend $60 million to build a factory in Wyoming that can produce 450,000 tons of chemicals classified as “sorbents” by the end of next year. The sorbents are used by coal-fired utilities to remove pollutants, such as acid gases, in treatment processes. The three companies each will invest equal amounts in the project.
