A summer music series started in 1968 in Princeton University’s graduate college courtyard returns for its 44th year of free concerts beginning Tuesday, June 19.

Princeton University Summer Chamber Concerts’ 2012 season features four concerts in Richardson Auditorium, the air-conditioned and acoustically superior venue for the series since 1991.

This year’s performers are the Daedalus String Quartet on Tuesday, June 19; the Chiara String Quartet on Monday, July 9; the Vienna Piano Trio on Wednesday, July 18; and the Manhattan Brass Quintet on Monday, July 23.

The Daedalus Quartet, formed in 2000, won the grand prize at the 2001 Banff International String Quartet Competition. The ensemble includes Min-Young Kim and Matilda Kaul, violins; Jessica Thompson, viola; and Thomas Kraines, cello.

The Chiara String Quartet, which consists of Rebecca Fischer and Julie Hye-Yung Yoon, violins; Jonah Sirota, viola; and Gregory Beaver, cello, plays a blend of traditional music for strings and interpretations of new music. The group is currently the Blodgett Artists-in-Residence at Harvard University.

Founded in 1988, the Vienna Piano Trio performs and teaches master classes internationally. The musicians are cellist Matthias Gredler, pianist Stefan Mendl, and violinist Wolfgang Redik.

Now entering its 21st season, the Manhattan Brass Quintet ––Wayne du Maine and Lew Soloff, trumpets; R.J. Kelley, horn; Michael Seltzer, trombone; and & David Taylor, bass trombone –– plays in a variety of genres.

All concerts are at 8 p.m., and free tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis from the Richardson box office beginning at 6:30 p.m.
