Princeton Summer Theater (PST) returns this week to celebrate its 45th season with four mainstage shows, a children’s play, and several children’s workshops on Princeton University’s campus.

PST is a “summer stock” type of project coordinated by university undergraduates and recent graduates planning to enter professional theater. Emma Watts is the 2013 artistic director.

The company opens Thursday, June 20, with the romantic musical comedy “She Loves Me,” featuring music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The 1963 show is based on the Hungarian play “Parfumerie” and the celebrated Hollywood film adaptation, “The Shop Around the Corner” (starring Princeton alumnus James Stewart). The show runs to Sunday, June 30.

The season continues with American playwright Beth Henley’s 1981 Pulitzer Prize winning tragi-comedy “Crimes of the Heart” (July 4-14), the popular spoof on Alfred Hitchcock’s film “The 39 Steps” (July 18-28), and Donald Margulies’s Tony-nominated Iraq war themed “Time Stands Still” (August 1-11).

Mainstage performances run Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25.

The children’s theater production of playwright (and company member) Annika Bennett’s “How Thumbelina Found Her Wings” runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 11 a.m. and starts, Thursday, July 4, and continues until, Saturday, August 11. Tickets are $9 (free for children under 3).

For young theater artists, 6 to 12 years of age, there are six Friday Young Artist’s Workshops, scheduled July 5 through August 9, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Individual sessions are $35 or $145 for all.

PST events take place in the Hamilton Murray Theater on the Princeton University campus. For more information go to www.princetonsummertheater.org, E-mail princetonsummertheater@gmail.com or call 609-258-7062.
