The spring edition of the New Jersey Film Festival at Rutgers University in New Brunswick gets rolling on Saturday, January 25, and continues with weekend showings through Friday, February 28.
Now in its 38th year, the juried festival features more than 40 films, including many New Jersey or regional premieres. Works range from international and American independent features to classics and experimental shorts and documentaries.
That includes “The Twelve Thousand,” pictured above, a 30-minute work telling the story of a young woman who survived the sex-trafficking industry thriving on the border of Nepal and India. The Canadian-produced film, set for a showing Friday, February 7, at 7 p.m., takes its name from the estimated 12,000 Nepalese children trafficked each year and was filmed in Kathmandu.
Director Eric Davis and producer Randy Watson will participate in an audience discussion following the screening.
The film festival takes place at Voorhees Hall #105 of Rutgers University, 71 Hamilton Street, New Brunswick. Tickets range from $9 to $14 and screenings on February 21 and 28 are free. For more information, including the full schedule of films: www.njfilmfest.com.
