A beloved musical and a theater troupe’s take on the works of Hemingway are the final two productions of McCarter Theater’s 2012-’13 theater season.

The Elevator Repair Service — the same group that brought “Gatz” to McCarter in December, 2011 — returns from Tuesday, October 16, to Sunday, November 4, with “The Select.” Based on Hemingway’s “The Sun Also Rises,” the performance excerpts pieces of the novel and adds dance and other elements to create a theatrical experience.

The final production of the season will be a new staging of Stephen Sondheim’s fairy tale-inspired musical “Into the Woods.” Under the direction of Noah Brody and Ben Steinfeld, the Fiasco Theater Company brings the twisted story to life with just 10 actors and a single piano. Performances run May 3 through June 2, 2013.
