The Republican Association of Princeton hosted its fourth annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Friday, April 16, at Jasna Polana, to celebrate the life and achievements of America’s 16th and first Republican President.
But despite the occasion, old Abe was definitely second fiddle. Guests were either anticipating what keynote speaker Steve Forbes, chairmain and chief executive of Forbes Inc., would say at dinner or leafing through the promotional materials from Congressional candidate Scott Sipprelle.
Who is Sipprelle? U.S. 1’s Richard K. Rein sized him up in a February 3 column as “a Republican trying to win a race in a heavily Democratic district — the 12th Congressional district represented since 1999 by Rush Holt. Sipprelle is a Princeton-based investment fund manager whose Wall Street experience included a stint at Morgan Stanley, where he became a managing director in the equity capital markets division by age 32.” Sipprelle recently wrote “The Golden Dog,” a mystery novel set on Wall Street.
Sipprelle has lived in Princeton since 2001, in Westland Mansion, the former home of president Grover Cleveland, which inspired the name of his investment firm, Westland Ventures. In addition to his work in the private sector, Sipprelle and his wife, Tracy, run the Sipprelle Charitable Corporation, which provides funding to area projects and charities.
A press release issued by the National Republican Congressional Committee on April 19 officially announced Sipprelle as an “On the Radar” candidate in the NRCC’s Young Guns program, designed to assist Republican candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives.
