After 21 years with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (and an abrupt departure – U.S. 1, January 16, 2008), conductor Mark Laycock, right, is making a name for himself in Europe. Now living in Germany, Laycock will return to Princeton’s Richardson Auditorium on Thursday, July 24, at 8 p.m.
Laycock will conduct the world-renowned Wiener KammerOrchester (Vienna Chamber Orchestra). The program will feature the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major, with soloist David Meier, and Beethoven’s epic Symphony No. 3, “Eroica.”
Bill and Judy Scheide, in cooperation with Princeton University Summer Concerts, are sponsoring this addition to the regular summer concert series. In January of this year Laycock conducted the Bavarian Chamber Orchestra, based in Augsberg, Germany, in a concert celebrating Bill Scheide’s 94th birthday.
Laycock’s other European connection is his wife, Nancy Laufer, a classical accordionist living in Berlin. They were married in 2007 at the Traukirche in Dornheim, Germany, where Johann Sebastian Bach was married in 1707.
