Transparency takes over at the Artworks Gallery in Trenton for the new exhibit “Positively Transparent: Watercolor Meets Glass,” which opens Saturday, July 21.

Curator Gail Bracegirdle has selected works by artists in two mediums –– watercolor and glass –– that share transparency as a common theme.

Watercolor artists include James Toogood, Robert Sakson, Annelies VanDommelen, Beatrice Bork, Eric Rhinehart, Earl Lewis, Ruth Councell, Mary Blackey, Barbara Osterman, and Bracegirdle.

Glass works in two and three dimensions from Charles Katzenbach, Joe Porcelli, Gail and Geoff Caldwell of Sunflower Glass Studio, and Kim Kurki and Bill Osler of Osler-Kurki Studio, will also be on view.

An opening reception takes place on Saturday, July 21, from 4 to 7 p.m., and includes a talk by the artists at 5 p.m. The exhibit closes with a reception on Saturday, August 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. Artists will be present at both receptions to sign prints and books about their works.

Bracegirdle, the curator, is a graduate of Moore College of Art and a member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. She worked in textile design for more than 20 years before transitioning to working exclusively in watercolor. She has taught watercolor classes since 1993 and leads “Watercolor Anarchy,” a group that meets every Saturday at Artworks. She is also involved with “Arts for the Manor,” a program at the Neshaminy Manor long term care facility in Pennsylvania.
