Morven in May — the annual juried exhibition and sale of contemporary American-made fine craft —returns Friday, May 5, and continues through Sunday, May 7.
This year’s event features 35 recognized American professional artists and artisans working in glass, ceramics, decorative and wearable fiber, mixed media, jewelry, furniture, and basketry, with works displayed in gallery-style booths under a grand tent. Princeton University Art Museum director James Steward was the juror.
Participating artisans include Cliff Lee, a Stevens, Pennsylvania, ceramicist known for mastering ancient Asian porcelains techniques and whose work is included in the permanent collection collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art; Mary Jackson, the renowned basket maker and recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship — aka the Genius Award — of Charlestown, South Carolina; Marguerite Brennan, a Summit, New Jersey, ceramicist whose hand built clay works are included in several celebrity private collections; and Anna Booth, the Zieglerville, Pennsylvania, glass artist, who served as past director of glass at Philadelphia’s National Liberty Museum and whose work is included in the Corning Museum of Glass.
Festivities begin with a preview party on Friday, May 5, when in addition to dinner and cocktails, craft collectors and lovers get a first glimpse of this season’s offerings. The event also serves as a fundraiser for Morven. Tickets start at $175.
The craft show is open on Saturday, May 6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $8 to $10 for adults and are free for children 12 and under.
Morven is also offering an heirloom plant sale, featuring annuals, perennials, flowering shrubs, and a selection of plants grown in Morven’s own garden. Plant sale admission is free.
