The Spirit of Princeton Flag Day ceremony will take place this year, rain or shine, on Wednesday, June 14, at noon at the Princeton Municipal Complex Plaza, 400 Witherspoon Street.
Retired Princeton Police Sgt. Fred Williams, also a United States Marine veteran, will be the guest speaker. When he served as a member of the Princeton Police Department, he was a member of the honor guard, and, in that capacity, had an active role in the Spirit of Princeton Flag Day ceremony for many years.
The Garden Statesmen, a renowned local a cappella choral group, will provide musical entertainment. Members of the Princeton Police Department, Fire Department, and Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad, as well as students from Community Park School, will be participating in the ceremony.
In the United States, Flag Day marks the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day. In August 1949, an Act of Congress established National Flag Day.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, The Spirit of Princeton is a not-for-profit, non-partisan community organization, whose mission is to produce events honoring Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Flag Day.
