The hard work and dedication among RWJUH Hamilton employees have been nationally recognized. The hospital recently received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.
“Quality and safety are increasingly on the minds of patients as they seek care,” said President & CEO Richard Freeman. “Those of us in healthcare know that transparency in patient safety helps raise the bar for physicians, nurses and the healthcare team. While it is the right thing to do, this is very hard work, and I am so proud of all that our team has achieved to be recognized with an A grade for the third time.”
The “A” designation is a product of marked improvement in the following areas since the previous survey:
• Reduced patient falls
• Reduced healthcare-acquired infections (zero in some categories)
• Awarded full credit for ICU physicians
• Received full credit for safe practice: culture measurement, feedback and intervention.
“Medical management of the ICU is now provided 24/7 by in-house, board-certified critical care physicians from our partners at Rutgers Health,” Freeman added. “This is recognized as best practice and we are already seeing improvements. For example, the time spent by patients on ventilators and the entire stay in the ICU are down. The quality of care in our ICU is simply outstanding.”
RWJUH Hamilton moves into 2018 striving to continue this upward trend, hosting staff education fairs, ensuring proper patient education and pulling from the RWJBarnabas network’s expansive resources to deliver optimal patient care and safety.
