On Saturday, April 23, CASA for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties held its fourth CASA Kids Superhero 5K at the Princeton Pike Corporate Center in Lawrenceville. The event raised just over $40,000 for our organization.
More than 200 participated in the USATF-certified 5k or the one-mile fun run. Top runners were Ethan Seltzer of Manalapan (fastest male) and Elizabeth Litten of Moorestown (fastest female). Winning the Lawyers’ Challenge for the second consecutive year was Fox Rothschild LLC, and winning the first-time Banker/Finance Cup was BNY Mellon/Albridge. The fastest team was the group from Mathematica, and for the eighth consecutive year Tyco fielded the team with the most runners. The Mt. Laurel-based law firm Capehart Scatchard was the event’s top fundraising team.
Our recurring race motto is “all children need heroes and all abused and neglected children need Superheroes,” which also describes the volunteer advocates so dedicated to the children that they serve.
The mission of CASA for Children of Mercer and Burlington Counties is to train and supervise community volunteers, appointed by the Family Court, to advocate for the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. The volunteers strive to ensure the emotional, physical, and educational well-being of these children while they reside in foster homes or residential facilities. The ultimate goal of these volunteers is to help establish a safe, stable, and permanent home for each child served.
