Old soldiers never die; that’s the problem.

They just fade away; that’s the problem.

Hard to look at — hard to look after.

So weak and soft where life has leaked away.

Battle sparkled eyes are jumpy and needy today.

Reluctant helpers, rarely there,

Pass the door, just stop and stare.

Has he faded away? Not yet today.

Hamilton resident Anthony Vizzari has studied acting and singing and has performed with improv groups in New York as well as in 10 productions at Kelsey Theater. Retired from Verzion, he is a member of the Action Screenwriters who meet at Barnes & Noble in Hamilton.
