My confidante just listens

To me as I expound.

Never interrupting.

Not uttering a sound.

His eyes intent upon me,

Full of sympathy,

Project a silent message,

That he is there for me.

He tells me that he understands

(Because he cannot speak)

By nuzzling his cold wet nose,

Against my tear stained cheek.
