There’s a fresh new look at Montgomery Eye Care, making the 16-year-old practice lighter, brighter, bigger, and more comfortable for patients. Of course, the personalized family-style care remains the same.
Not only is the office looking good, but the practice also is healthy, still attracting new patients and retaining long-time patients. According to owner Dr. Mary Boname, she “loves the practice and the patients now as much as she did when the doors opened in 1997.”
There are other additions to the Montgomery Eye Care lineup, including MacuHealth with LMZ3, a supplement Dr. Boname began taking and then started offering to patients; it can only be purchased through a doctor’s office. It contains patented nutrition of the three components found in the macula: lutein, zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin. According to Dr. Boname, these help protect the macula to protect vision.
“Macular degeneration — both kinds — is the leading cause of vision loss for those over 50,” she said. “If you have elevated cholesterol and are obese, you’re at risk for AMD. If you’re a smoker, it triples your risk for wet AMD, the most visually devastating form of AMD. In addition to lifestyle changes, if needed, MacuHealth with LMZ3 is a great way to get supplementation you can’t always get from diet.”
Montgomery Eye Care is a preventive optometry practice. Dr. Boname takes a thorough history to learn about other medical issues and coordinates care with a patient’s other physicians, if necessary. There are links between skin cancer and macular degeneration and glaucoma, and rosacea and clinically dry eyes, for example. Dr. Boname endeavors to intervene to create health before there are irreversible problems.
“Don’t wait until there’s vision loss to consult an eye doctor,” she cautions. “That’s why routine exams are so important.”
Other new innovations at Montgomery Eye Care: Dr. Boname wears, and offers patients, BluTech Lenses, which protect from blue radiation, the kind the comes from computers, smartphones, and indoor lighting. Different from UV, blue radiation has been shown in studies to impact melatonin levels, which can impact sleep and cause chronic issues.
On the technology side, www.mecnj.com will soon be mobile-friendly so patients can seek information, request an exam, and order contacts on the go. It’s just another way Dr. Boname and her staff are making sure their high quality and friendly services are convenient, too.
Montgomery Eye Care offers patients comprehensive eye care, plus a large variety of glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses.
