Marking what orchestra president David Tierno rightfully called one of its most creative years, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra — under the music direction of Rossen Milanov — turned its annual gala at the Bedens Brook Club into a well-deserved jazz celebration.

“A Jazz Night Cap” mixed Princeton and Manhattan by featuring musical presentations by powerhouse jazz vocalist Alicia Olatuja, jazz trombonist James Burton III, and the members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars.

The event also engaged the rest of the world when Nicolas D. Lowry — president and principal auctioneer of Swan Auction Galleries in New York City — conducted the live auction for chances to vacation in a medieval castle in southern France, an apartment in Italy, a turn-of-the-century Nantucket seacoast house, and more.

The event raises 10 percent of the PSO’s annual operating budget and sets the stage for more creative accomplishments to come. Something truly to celebrate.
