The American Heart Association is seeking nominations for its eighth annual New Jersey Go Red For Women “Woman of Distinction” award. The award recognizes and honors New Jersey women who work towards promoting a healthy lifestyle for or among women, make a sustained, unique, or extraordinary effort to improve the community, support and advance women issues, or serve as a role model to other women.
The award will be presented at the American Heart Association Garden State Go Red For Women Luncheon on Monday, May 12, at the Palace in Somerset. The statewide educational event attended by nearly 500 New Jersey women (and men) features a luncheon reception, an inspirational keynote address, and a series of educational breakout sessions.

Princeton Center for Yoga and Health offers Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, an eight-week program, with Jeffrey S. Rutstein and Deborah Metzger. The program, begins Wednesday, March 12. Based on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, the program’s structured educational approach offers mindfulness meditation and gentle yoga guides people to live more adaptive lives.

American Red Cross offers a new pet first aid app for iPhone and Android phones to help dog and cat owners provide emergency care until veterinary assistance is available. The cost is 99 cents.
“Pet owners learn how to recognize health problems and when to contact their veterinarian,” said Mathieu Nelessen, regional CEO, American Red Cross North Jersey Region. “The Pet First Aid App provides step-by-step instructions, videos, and images for more than 25 common first aid and emergency situations including how to treat wounds, control bleeding, and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies.”
History shows that people have not evacuated during disasters because they did not want to leave their pets behind. The Red Cross app contains resources to help owners include pets in their emergency action plans. The app will create a pet profile, an animal hospital locator, and pet-friendly hotels.

NJWOMENSONG Women’s Choir is a new ensemble designed for women who share a passion for choral singing. Auditions for new members will be held on Wednesdays, February 12, 19 and 26, in Hunterdon Central High School’s choir room in the music building. For Teens
Young Audiences of New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania is accepting applications for the Emerging Artists Creativity Hub, a teen arts program designed for young artists, ages 13 to 17, who are interested and gifted in the arts. It is intended for students to study and work in the arts far beyond the typical high school curriculum. The 10-week program is held each semester on Saturdays from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. at the College of New Jersey in Ewing.

Recycle
Lawrence Township offers a new food waste recycling program. An information session will be presented by town recycling coordinator Greg Whitehead at Lawrence Library on Wednesday, January 29, at 7 p.m.
Participants in the program will put organic waste in a separate container that will be picked up at your curbside, then taken to Maryland where it is turned into compost. You can put food leftovers, pizza boxes, yard waste, and soiled paper products in the bin. Central Jersey Waste, needs 300 participants to start. The cost is $17 per month.
Camps
Terhune Orchards offers one week farm summer camp to learn about farming and nature from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for ages 7 to 10. There is also a future farmers gardening camp for ages 8 to 12. Visit www.terhuneorchards.com or call 609-924-2310 for information.

Old Barracks Museum offers history summer day camp for boys and girls ages 9 to 12. Children spend a week learning about life in the 18th century as well as history of the Old Barracks, the Revolutionary War, and Trenton. Cooking, gardening, dancing, crafts, and marching included. For Kids
Cranbury-Plainsboro Little League is accepting registration for baseball, softball, and t-ball seasons. Open to boys and girls ages 5 to 12 who live within Cranbury and Plainsboro. The new 50/70 Intermediate league is open for ages 11 to 13. Age eligibility is determined by a player’s birth date.
