Grants to Hire Former Pharma Workers

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD) is offering financial incentives for hiring and training former pharmaceutical industry employees.

Under the program, an employer can be reimbursed between 50 and 90 percent of a newly trained worker’s salary for up to six months and a maximum of $14,000.

“This is an opportunity for employers to bring on new staff and offset their training costs. This program benefits employers and employees and will help stimulate job growth here in New Jersey,” said LWD Commissioner Harold Wirths.

Employers from all New Jersey industries are eligible to participate in the program, which was designed to help workers who were displaced from the pharmaceutical industry due to the economic downturn. Workers eligible for the program include former employees of Merck, Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, and Roche.

For more details and to apply for a grant, call Nadine Scala, Pharma OJT Coordinator at 973-829-8400 ext. 233, or via E-mail at nscala@co.morris.nj.us.
