Audition
M&M Stage Productions has auditions for “A Night in the Theater” and “The Actor’s Nightmare,” on Saturday and Sunday, November 2 and 3, to 5 p.m. CM Building, Mercer College, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor.
“A Night in the Theater,” directed by Mike DiIorio, is about four noisy theatergoers, ages 40s to 50s. “The Actor’s Nightmare,” directed by Dan Spalluto, needs a cast of five. Audition sheets are available at mandmstage.com. Bring an updated picture and resume. Readings will be provided at the audition. The show dates are Friday to Sunday, January 24 to 26. For Playwrights
Villagers Theater is accepting submissions of original, unpublished works of comedies, dramas, and farces for the 2014 New Playwrights Series. Selected plays will be presented as staged readings in the Zaidi Black Box Theater from February to May. The selected playwrights are required to attend the readings and to participate in discussions with the audience.
Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, October 15. Script word count must be 25,000 words or less. All submissions must include character breakdown and detailed synopsis. Include brief bio and contact information. One-act plays, shorter scripts, and full-length scripts are invited. Musicals will not be considered.

Lawrence Library seeks plays for its sixth annual One-Act Play Festival, on Saturday, April 26. Playwrights residing or working in the Delaware Valley are asked to submit their works of a staged reading. Plays should be 10 minutes in length with a maximum of five characters. The plays chosen by the selection committee will be staged for the community by local actors and directors at the library at 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville.
Playwrights, amateur or professional, should submit their plays by Sunday, December 15. Scripts can be E-mailed as a Word document attachment to akerr@mcl.org or brought to the Lawrence Library reference desk. Include two title pages: one with the play title only and the other with play title and name, address, phone, and E-mail of author. The playwright’s name should not appear in the script. Sports for Cause
Mercer County Turkey Trot will be held Thursday, November 28, at Mercer County Park. The entry fee for the 5K road race or the 1 mile fun walk/run is $25. ($30 after October 31 or on race day). Participants who register prior to November 20 receive a T-shirt. Races begin at 8 a.m.

Princeton University Library offers manuscripts by F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940), Class of 1917, online. His first day of classes was on his birthday, September 24, 1913. Marking the centennial, the library has digitized Fitzgerald’s manuscripts and typescripts of his autobiographical first novel, “This Side of Paradise” (1920). The manuscripts and typescripts are part of the F. Scott Fitzgerald Papers in the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections at Princeton University Library.
In the manuscripts and typescripts, one can see the author at work writing and revising the two halves of his novel, “The Romantic Egotist” and “The Education of a Personage.” He wrote by hand and the galleys and page proofs do not survive. The novel became a commercial success despite the many errors, some of which were corrected in subsequent printings. The novel is filled with references to Princeton University, Daily Princetonian, Triangle Club, Cottage Club, Princeton football, and Nassau Inn.

Drama for the Young
Arts Council of Princeton presents a playwright’s workshop for ages 14 to 18, beginning Tuesday, September 24, at 4 p.m. James Christy presents a variety of writing exercises and in-class performances to help students develop new plays, with a focus on the Princeton community. It will culminate in a public reading of short pieces from each participant.
