American Repertory Ballet (ARB) kicks off an ambitious autumn with a two-night presentation on Friday and Saturday, September 20 and 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Rider University’s Bart Luedeke Center Theater.
The program features several works choreographed by ARB’s artistic staff and includes an excerpt from the company’s full production of ARB artistic director Douglas Martin’s “Romeo and Juliet,” set to Sergei Prokofiev’s 1936 score and premiering with live accompaniment by the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra at the State Theater in New Brunswick on Friday, October 11.
Also performed at the Rider University events are Martin’s 1960s office set interpretation of composer Igor Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring,” resident choreographer Mary Barton’s Vivaldi-scored “Five Men and a Concerto,” and guest choreographer Patrick Corbin’s “Caress” (created to the music of contemporary composer Kate Jewel).
American Repertory Ballet, based in New Brunswick, is a contemporary ballet company founded in 1963 and includes the Princeton Ballet School and the Access and Enrichment initiatives that include the Dance Power program and the “On Pointe” series.
The company will also be presenting its 50th-anniversary production of “The Nutcracker,” starting at McCarter Theater in Princeton on Wednesday, November 27.
