Planned Parenthood Association of the Mercer Area is offering free family planning services to uninsured women 18 years and younger at its Hamilton health center thanks to a $127,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation based at Route 1 and College Road East.

Services include a variety of contraceptive services, pregnancy testing, cancer screenings, and HIV testing.

“Young women have the fewest resources when accessing reproductive health care,” says Allison Howe, vice president of health services at Mercer Planned Parenthood. “If our services were no longer available to youth at no cost it would undoubtedly have dire consequences such as unintended pregnancy, untreated infections, and delayed diagnoses.”

In both 2010 and 2011, state funding for family planning services was completely eliminated. The Robert Wood Johnson grant enabled Planned Parenthood to continue to provide health care services to young women with no health insurance.

The program is available until February 14. For more information or to make an appointment, go to www.plannedparenthood.org/mercer/free-services-women-18-younger-37027.htm.

Employees of NRG Energy, based in Carnegie Center, recently helped organize a “Fun Friday” afternoon with members of the Boys & Girls Club of Trenton & Mercer County.

The event celebrated the company’s $165,000 donation to the club. Employees and club members , between the ages 5 to 9, ran relay races, played Pictionary, chess and charades, and made paper pinwheels as a learning prop to talk about NRG’s clean energy ventures.
