Irish-American Songs of the Heart

The accolades are remarkable: “Cathie Ryan . . . moves her richly sympathetic voice between traditional songs and new ones infused with Celtic mystery”; the Irish American News in Chicago named her its Female Vocalist of the Decade; the Washington Post says she is “blessed with a soprano voice that’s both lovely and affecting. It’s a potent combination”; and the Boston Globe recently wrote, “Cathie Ryan is a thrilling traditional vocalist whose honey-pure soprano is equally at home on probing original ballads about a woman’s place in the modern world.”

Formerly the lead singer of Cherish the Ladies, the Detroit-born Irish-American Ryan will give a concert on Sunday, January 15, at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville.

“There is nothing like a live show, being with an audience, sharing the music,” she says. “That is the best part of being a singer and writing songs.”

Maybe the Irish Echo sums it up best: “Cathie Ryan certainly knows how to communicate with her audience. And what she communicates through song are the enduring values of home, family, memory, and spirit.”

Cathie Ryan, Sunday, January 15, 3 p.m., Notre Dame High School, 601 Lawrence Road. Lawrenceville Irish American singer-songwriter. $25. 609-730-1619 or www.ndnj.org.
