Celebrating 25 Years

Here at U.S. 1 we don’t normally fuss about anniversaries, but this year might be a little different. Twenty-five years ago we were preparing the first edition of U.S. 1 for the printer. Even then it was an audacious idea: First, because everyone thought the greater Princeton area was already saturated with newspapers; and second because it was designed to serve a segment of the community that up until then had been viewed as a problem, not an opportunity.

We are going to mark this milestone in several ways that we hope are informative, as well as entertaining. In our Wednesday, November 11 issue, we will kick off our 25th anniversary with our founder, Richard K. Rein, chronicling the 25 top ideas — mostly good but some bad — that have shaped our enterprise. For entertainment, we will reprise the networking opportunity that we introduced 25 years ago: a “rush hour reception” to which all readers are invited. Our tentative date: Tuesday, November 24, from 5 to 8. Place to be announced.

That does it for our ideas, but the celebration continues. In our first issue of the new year, Wednesday, January 6, we will present the best of your ideas — that eureka moment that led to the birth of your business, or the light bulb that helped turn your venture into an ongoing successful enterprise. See our house ad on page 10 for information on how you can join in this issue.

Finally, in the late spring, U.S. 1 will sponsor an event that celebrates the art and craft of writing, the discipline that has kept us in business all these years and what we hope will sustain us into the future, whether it be in print, online, or some other medium we haven’t yet encountered. Though we can’t announce the date yet, we assure you it will be a publishing event that will also be entertaining. We look forward to seeing many of you in person in this, our 25th year.
