Uninvited Guests

Loneliness,

With its arm thrown lazily

Around boredom’s shoulder,

Approaches my doorstep.

I do not answer their call,

Pretending I am not home.

They have been here often

And my home is always a mess

When they leave.

I hope they will go next door

Or down the street,

But they simply sit on the stoop

And wait for me to invite them in.
