I had forgotten how luminous you become

When late morning light filters through,

forgotten the neon brightness of your halo,

which might seem gaudy except for the languor

of your impossibly tall body, Barbie

redesigned by Botticelli.

The placard declares that your image

Mimics a window in Christ Church Cathedral.

But you remained secular, graced

a private dining hall, playing pipe organ

in your translucent blue gown,

surrounded by painted glass pomegranates.

No use beseeching your mercy —

historians discredit your legend. Your

5th century martyrdom cannot be confirmed.

But what do we care, you and I,

on this April day in Princeton,

as the fragrance of music enfolds us.
