Ever notice how “convenient hours” at a lot of doctors’ offices are really only convenient to the doctors?
The frustrating fact is, getting to the doctor usually means having to take a day, or at least part of one, off from work. More frustrating is that for a lot of people, getting time off from work isn’t always possible.
Enter Dr. Shazia Shah, who has just opened her practice at Princeton Medical Associates at 10 Forrestal Road South with the goal of providing truly convenient hours to patients whose lives aren’t always accommodating during daytime work hours. Dr. Shah will operate weekday evenings and Saturdays so that patients can get to the doctor after work or on a day off from work and not have to disrupt their everyday lives.
“I wanted to cater to the needs of folks in the community who are active,” she says. “In the community, at work, or wherever. For example, a lot of people travel to and from New York City for work. We’re about catering to those who just can’t take time out of their busy schedules.”
As a New York State medical school graduate since 1996, Dr. Shah is a double board certified internal medicine physician. She has been practicing medicine in New Jersey since 2001. Dr. Shah began her career in New Jersey with Capital Health System as a clinic physician and hospitalist. She also collaborated with advanced nurse practitioners there.
Dr. Shah then moved on to St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, where she was faculty, assistant professor of medicine (in conjunction with Seton Hall University) and assistant program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. She managed patients and taught medical students, interns, residents, and advanced nurse practitioners.
Dr. Shah also has worked in private practices around Mercer County and was the medical director of the Hospitalist program at Meridian Health. In addition to her new private practice, she is on the staff at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, across the street from her new office.
Dr. Shah is a resident of Lawrenceville. “I live locally and I’m here to stay,” she says.
While Saturday walk-ins are welcome, it’s still best to call for an appointment. Usually, Dr. Shah says, patients can get in the same day. The practice is accepting new patients and accepts most major insurance plans, as well as a discounted cash fee for those uninsured.
