Princeton Dance and Theatre Studio celebrates its 10th year by doing what it’s been doing from day one: offering exceptional training in ballet, pointe, jazz, hip hop, tap, and flamenco. The studio has a reputation nation-wide for turning out dancers who are accepted into professional company training programs and junior companies and to some of the best universities in the country.
Yet, there is plenty of emphasis on the enjoyment of dance. Director Risa Kaplowitz says that Dance with Me classes for ages 2 to 3 ½ are a perfect example. The classes for children and their caregivers use movement games and story telling to facilitate learning dance concepts.
“I was attracted to ballet because I started at age 3 in dance classes that gave my imagination a place to thrive,” said Kaplowitz. “Dance with Me, which began its 8-week sessions last year, is now so popular that we have had to add several more to the schedule in order to accommodate the demand.”
Kaplowitz also reports that Ballet for Boys has grown considerably and that she sees many boys also enjoying hip hop, jazz, and tap. “It’s now cool for boys to dance,” she adds.
The quality of instructors at Princeton Dance and Theater Studio is what sets the school apart. All of the ballet instructors are American Ballet Theatre® National Training Curriculum Certified or Affiliate teachers. The curriculum consists of a comprehensive set of age-appropriate, outcome-based guidelines to provide the highest quality ballet training to students of all ages and skill levels. All of the school’s instructors are seasoned professionals and highly experienced in teaching.
Princeton Dance and Theater Studio students, ages 5 through adults, along with the community at large, are welcome to audition for DanceVision’s professional-quality performances.
The not-for-profit company’s mission is to share its love and appreciation of dance through performances, school residencies and community outreach programs such as Princeton Dance for Parkinsons.
“This winter, DanceVision Performance Company will perform ‘The Snow Queen,’ which sold out performances last year,” said Kaplowitz, who is also DanceVision’s artistic director.

Princeton Dance and Theater Studio classes begin on Monday, September 10, and everyone may attend a trial class at no charge from September 10 to September 22. This offer is open to all ages and levels; all it takes is a call to schedule the free class.
