Hurricane Sandy battered New Jersey,

flooded houses, toppled trees, blocked roads

washed away beaches and made people huddle

like cavemen in the dark

But birds, masters of extreme weather

corrected their course when blown astray

dive-bombed like missiles for fish

used the storm as a sling shot to gain speed

and rode the gale windsurfing through the sky
